British Infantry and Cavalry of the BEF soon learned that the new weapons and tactics would change the face of war. The horse and charge would become obsolete.
Although most major armies continued to maintain and deploy cavalry, this was changed by the end of World War I. The offensive role of the horse became primarily supply, support and movement of artillery.
