In June 1921, Brigadier General Billy Mitchell, flying a Curtiss MB-2 bomber, sinks the German dreadnought Ostfriesland to demonstrate the effectiveness of air power. The U.S. Navy was infuriated by his success, so for his efforts, Mitchell was demoted to colonel.
