Just one day after Mussolini committed his troops to the Axis, the bombing campaign over the tiny, British-controlled island of Malta began. Vigorous combat ensued for years, and, in desperate need of assistance, Churchill asked FDR for help. He responded by shuttling fifty Spitfires to the Mediterranean aboard the USS Wasp. This limited edition print recreates April 20, 1942, when a series of blue-painted Spitfires took off from the U.S. Aircraft Carrier and made the much-needed journey to Malta.
Limited edition print is signed and numbered by the artist.
