This Print depicts the morning of June 3, 1942, when Ensign Jack Reid of VP-44, piloting a PBY Catalina flying boat, spotted the main Japanese invasion force heading for Midway. Shadowing them for several hours, Reid was able to alert U.S. troops at Midway. They sent B-17s, PBYs and other aircraft from the island for a torpedo attack on the invasion fleet, preceding the battle at Midway the next morning.
