The Clash of Empires range covers many battles in the American Revolution era.
Spartanburg County, South Carolina bears a proud Revolutionary War heritage. The county has more Revolutionary War engagement sites than practically any other locale in the United States. As early as 1775 the Spartanburg Regiment was organized. While research into service of men of color during the American Revolution is ongoing (with evidence drawn from state and federal military records, pension claims, census, and civil sources), we do know that in South Carolina 41 served in Continental regiments, 21 in militias, and 9 in the navy. Of these 48 were free men at the time of their Revolutionary War service. Our figure represents a member of the Spartanburg Militia as he might have appeared during the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.

Based on the Soldier Study by Don Troiani Black Militiaman of the Spartanburg SC Militia.
