Del Prado SNC045 French General Montbrun, 1805

LASALLE, General Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte (1775-1809).
Born at Metz into a noble family, Lasalle was commissioned in the Bourbon infantry as a sous-lieutenant in 1786, and having been deprived of his rank by the Revolution re-enlisted as a private soldier. This daring cavalry-man came to Bonapartes notice during the first Italian campaign, when at the battle of Rivoli Lasalle and a mere squadron of his hussars captured a whole battalion of Austrians. He was then distinguished during the Egyptian campaign, his bravery earning him further promotion. He was promoted to gral de brigade in1805 and fought at Austerlitz. One of Napoleons best commanders of light cavalry, this handsome, well-educated and witty soldier was fearless on the battlefield yet he liked to pose as a ruffian. Hard drinking, hard living, flamboyant and with a cultivated swagger.
