Del Prado SNC059 Officer, Horse Artillery, Consular Guard, 1803

When he graduated to become a lieutenant in the La F Regiment of the Corps royal de lartillerie, Napoleons supreme commander was the elderly General de Gribeauval. After a long series of political battles, France eventually adopted the innovative system of artillery drawn up and introduced by Gribeauval. The young Napoleon was therefore fortunate to become an officer within a few years of the adoption by the French Army of what was arguably the best artillery system in Europe at that time. It was, therefore, ironic that thanks to the reforms instituted by Gribeauval towards the end of the Ancien Rme Napoleon inherited an expert and generally very effective artillery arm.
