These types of tents were used mainly by the nomadic tribes of the great plains such as the Sioux.
They were made of stitched buffalo skins stretched over numerous poles arranged in a conical shape.
Stitched together with pegs down the front a bit like a coat they could be assembled and dis-assembled easily.
The wings or flaps at the top could be adjusted to allow the escape of smoke from the fire which was often lit inside.
