Soldiers on both sides marched between dusk and dawn – rarely at night because of risk of accident and injury. They would make breakfast before sunrise, pack up camp, set out on the march at daylight, and would continue marching throughout the day, usually fixing dinner at dark. Soldiers would march in any kind of weather: heat, cold, rain, or snow. Rarely did marching occur on good roads as they typically marched through mud and water – it truly was A Hard Road to Travel. Both Confederate soldiers march with confidence to the next campaign with hopes of quickly ending the war. They carry regulation Confederate field equipment with standard 3-band rifled muskets and wear unique Confederate frock coats.
