Gerry Ford Designs 101st Airborne, Hamburger Hill, 1969

These hand-painted collectors' soldiers depict members of the 101st Airborne paratroopers assaulting "Hamburger Hill" in Vietnam. They are armed with M16 assault rifles, M60 machine guns and M grenade launchers.
Although the battle lasted only 10 days, it became one of the hardest slogging matches for the paratroopers who, time after time, fought up the hill against an entrenched enemy in bunkers.
Finally the summit was gained, only to be swept by US helicopter fire which struck down many survivors of the uphill battle. However, control was gained and Hamburger Hill taken from the North Vietnam Army.
