First Legion
First Legion presents the legendary 2nd Lancers of the Imperial Guard, famously known as the Red Lancers! In 1810 the regiment was formed of Dutchmen after the French annexation of Holland, and served with distinction during all campaigns between 1812 and 1815. The 1812 Russian Campaign all but destroyed the regiment and the replacements were primarily Frenchmen; so being one of the few original Dutch by 1815 was a source of great pride. The Red Lancers of the Guard served with great distinction in Russia, Saxony, the low countries, and the 100 days with their striking red uniforms, their fearsome lances, and commanded by the superb Colonel Edouard Colbert.
This trooper is ready to hack down the enemy with a heavy cavalry sabre. Such blades were often left unsharpened to stop them catching in bone.
